Apple's latest advertising campaign depicting Windows as a fat old bloke may seem stereotypical, but since 95% of users use Windows anyway, it's a much bigger target for Hackers and Virus Scripters (As well as an easier target, because of users usually logging on as admin).
However, Windows is far better at providing flexibility with the hardware you choose. Although Microsoft wants to dominate your software, its much more flexible in what you choose for your PC. While Apple sells budget Graphics cards (NVIDIA 7300GT) at 40% more expensive retail prices, the technical difference is just that Apple messed it up so much that you can't actually use any other hardware (because the OS doesn't have the right drivers). |

After resisting the temptation of buying a 400 Pound HK 60 GB version of the Playstation 3 in Beijing during January, the PS3 is finally set to launch in March over here in Euro-land. Games retailers have been heavily advertising to 'Pre-order' your console, but I doubt that you will be able to get one on the day of launch, just like what happened over in the States. With the retail price of the console itself going up to GBP 450 itself, it is questionable who would spend that much money for a console that doesn't even have that many games out yet. The answer to that is probably the ego-bolstering privilege of showing it off to your mates and annoying your girlfriend with the fact that it's got so much more power than the Wii she's so fond off (although according to NVIDIA's Product PR Manager Adam Foat, you can happily play Tennis on your Wii while waiting for a game to load on your Playstation 3). I wouldn't mind so much getting one myself, if it wasn't for the fact that Sony is known for ripping off everything innovative and turning it into a Sony-branded product (which is why it's so much more ironic that the Nintendo Wii slapped them in the face so much). Anyway, happy gaming and hopefully there will be a time when Sony allows all of Cell's Processing Units to be used for massive supercomputing under the Linux Operating System. |

NVIDIA releases its CUDA GPGPU solution for its GeForce 8800 Series graphics processors as a public beta. Making use of the GeForce 8 Series' 128/96 Streaming processors in its current top-end line-up, it gives developers the ability to experiment and make use of the GPUs vast amount of processing power. In addition to the CUDA SDK and C Compiler, it also comes with pre-compiled demo programs that can be executed in native or emulated mode. |
